IndiGo Adjusts Long-Haul Strategy Amid Rising Costs and Geopolitical Challenges

IndiGo has announced a temporary pause in its London Heathrow operations as it reshapes its long-haul strategy in response to rising operating costs and ongoing geopolitical challenges. The airline will suspend its London Heathrow flights from October 25 and conclude its damp lease agreement for six Boeing 787-9 aircraft with Norse Atlantic Airways on October 31. While the Mumbai–Amsterdam route will continue to operate using the smaller Airbus A321XLR aircraft from October 25, London services will remain suspended until the airline begins inducting its Airbus A350-900 fleet. IndiGo had leased the six Boeing 787-9 aircraft in early 2025 to gain operational experience in long-haul services, including network planning, crew management, maintenance, airport operations and revenue management, before deploying its own wide-body aircraft. However, prolonged geopolitical tensions, restricted airspace, higher fuel prices, currency pressures and increased operating costs have reduced route efficiency and competitiveness, leading to a review of the programme. Despite this short-term adjustment, the airline has reaffirmed that its long-term international expansion strategy remains unchanged, with the Airbus A350-900 expected to play a key role in future long-haul growth, while affected passengers will be offered alternative travel arrangements or refunds where applicable. $INDIGO Disclaimer: This post is for informational purposes only and not a recommendation to buy or sell any securities.
