Exide Industries: 6 GWh Battery Plant Commissioned

EXIDEIND
has commissioned Phase-I of its 6 GWh lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. Exide Energy Solutions Limited, a material subsidiary of Exide Industries, has completed commissioning of Phase-I of its 6 GWh lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility at Devanahalli, Bengaluru. The facility is designed to manufacture lithium-ion cells across multiple chemistries and form factors for mobility and energy-storage applications. The commissioning marks a move from battery-cell capacity creation to the operating stage. Exide had planned the larger cell-manufacturing facility in phases, so the next part of the story is no longer just about capacity being built. My view is that commissioning by itself does not establish the eventual earnings contribution. The more important variables are plant utilisation, cell yields, customer qualification, production volumes and unit economics. These will determine whether the new facility becomes a meaningful contributor to the business. I will watch the ramp-up of Phase-I, commercial customer volumes and margins from the cell business over the coming quarters. Stance: Tracking the transition from commissioning to commercial utilisation. Disclosure: Add your actual holding, position or interest disclosure before publishing.
