Bihar’s Flavoured Makhana Goes Global: APEDA Facilitates Landmark Export to Canada

In a major boost to Bihar’s agri-export ecosystem, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the state's first-ever sea shipment of value-added flavoured makhana (fox nuts) to Canada. The inaugural seven-tonne consignment, processed and packaged by Nutrivin Agro Private Limited according to global food safety standards, was flagged off from Darbhanga on July 29, 2026, and dispatched to Canada's ZKV Foods via Mundra Port. APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev highlighted that this landmark dispatch reflects the collaborative efforts of farmers, exporters, and industry stakeholders, showcasing Bihar’s growing capacity for high-quality, export-oriented food processing. As India's leading makhana producer, Bihar is leveraging the global shift toward healthy snacks to enhance the market value of its agricultural produce. According to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, moving into value-added processing has boosted returns for local makhana farmers by over 50%.
