GE Aerospace Targets $400M India Sourcing Expansion
GE Aerospace has announced plans to nearly double its annual supply chain spending in India to ₹3,802 crore ($400 million) by 2030, up from ₹1,901 crore ($200 million) in 2025, reinforcing its four-decade presence and commitment to India's aerospace ecosystem. According to South Asia CEO Vikram Rai, this expansion entails procuring new component lines and scaling up volumes of existing parts. GE Aerospace’s operational footprint features a global sourcing hub in Pune—which has received ₹2,426 crore ($255 million) in total investments—alongside a technology centre in Bengaluru. The company operates a robust network comprising 17 primary suppliers, including domestic heavyweights like Tata Group, Mahindra, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), and Godrej, supported by over 2,000 local vendors. The expanded procurement strategy is backed by strong commercial and defense demand, with over 1,400 commercial engines and 200 defense engines currently active across the country, alongside 1,700+ new aircraft ordered by Indian carriers entering service over the next decade. This growth aligns with long-term passenger traffic projections, which are expected to surge from 340 million in FY2025–26 to 1.1 billion by 2040. Additionally, GE Aerospace's Bengaluru Technology Centre—credited with over 1,000 patents—drives predictive maintenance, engine inspections, and digital analytics platforms, utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning to streamline global MRO, supply chain, and sales operations.
