India Data Centre Capacity Expansion 2026-2030
According to Cushman & Wakefield’s India Data Centre H1 2026 Update, India’s data centre sector is embarking on a massive expansion, projected to add 3,860 MW of capacity across top markets by 2030. During the first half of 2026, the country's top seven markets added 178 MW, bringing total operational capacity to 1,789 MW, alongside 509 MW under active construction and 3,351 MW in the planning pipeline. Across India, 33 operators currently manage 147 data centres, maintaining a colocation vacancy rate of 14.9%. Mumbai continues to lead the national landscape with 890 MW of operational capacity and 1,726 MW of upcoming supply, while secondary hubs—including Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi NCR, Pune, Bengaluru, and Kolkata—are accelerating a geographically diversified expansion.
Funding this pipeline will require an estimated ₹2.84 lakh crore ($29.9 billion) in development capital through 2030. This growth forms part of a broader Asia-Pacific trajectory where total data centre capacity is forecast to expand 2.7 times, demanding over ₹26.59 lakh crore ($280 billion) in capital expenditure, with roughly 77% (approx. ₹20.42 lakh crore / $215 billion) concentrated in Japan, Malaysia, Australia, India, and Indonesia. Cushman & Wakefield Executive Managing Director Gautam Saraf emphasized that the Indian ecosystem is maturing in both scale and operational depth, noting that the incoming ~3.9 GW capacity will provide essential infrastructure for the next wave of cloud adoption, enterprise AI deployment, and data-driven economic expansion.
