India is actively advancing electric mobility via its PM E-Drive initiative, demonstrating significant policy momentum and swift increase in EV usage. As of February, more than 28 lakh electric vehicles have been sold across the nation, according to Union Heavy Industries Minister Mr. H.D. Kumaraswamy. During the 3rd FICCI National Conference on Electric Vehicles in New Delhi, it was stated that the total comprises over 20 lakh electric two-wheelers and around 3 lakh electric three-wheelers, clearly reflecting significant consumer acceptance and governmental backing for eco-friendly transportation. The growing popularity of electric vehicles is enhancing urban air quality while also benefiting local manufacturers, aided by ongoing government efforts.
The government is also advancing the swift electrification of public transport, having approved more than 14,000 electric buses for large cities, clearly demonstrating its commitment to sustainable mobility infrastructure. The declaration further emphasized that the increasing number of Free Trade Agreements between India and areas like the European Union, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates is generating new export opportunities for electric vehicles and their parts. The statement highlighted that electric mobility transcends a climate change initiative; it represents an industrial and technological aspiration focused on building resilient manufacturing capabilities for the future. The ongoing rise in the uptake of electric vehicles clearly indicates India's shift towards advanced manufacturing, innovation-led growth, and environmentally friendly mobility infrastructure aligned with the nation’s long-term economic and ecological goals.
