Reliance Industries and the Jio IPO : What to Expect

Reliance Industries Limited is heading towards a potential Jio Platforms IPO by the end of October, with the issue estimated at around $3.8 billion. Jio Platforms is reportedly targeting an enterprise valuation of $143-146 billion, or above ₹12 lakh crore. The company is expected to file its final IPO papers in the week beginning October 12. For Reliance Industries Limited, the important point is not simply the size of the IPO. It is the valuation benchmark that a listed Jio could create for Reliance's digital businesses. Reliance owns about 66.4% of Jio Platforms. Jio Platforms reported FY26 revenue of ₹1.47 lakh crore and PAT of ₹30,053 crore. Business Standard A successful listing could make this value more visible to Reliance shareholders. But the valuation also matters. At $143-146 billion, investors would be paying a significant premium for Jio's telecom scale and its expansion into AI, cloud and enterprise services. My view: The IPO is a potential value-unlocking event for Reliance, but I would focus more on the final valuation than the headline issue size. If the IPO prices near the upper end without a corresponding acceleration in earnings, the value-unlocking benefit for Reliance shareholders may be smaller than the headline suggests.
