Urban Company grows 41%, but losses widen sharply
Urban Company Limited (NSE: URBANCO) reported Q2 FY27 revenue of approximately ₹537 crore, up 41.4% year-on-year. Its consolidated net loss widened to around ₹182 crore from ₹59 crore a year earlier. What happened? The company delivered strong revenue growth, but its EBITDA loss also widened sharply, from approximately ₹69 crore to ₹188 crore. It has also approved plans to raise up to ₹2,500 crore through equity, debt and other routes. My analysis The central investment question is whether Urban Company can translate demand growth into improving unit economics. Revenue growth of 41% is meaningful, but the widening operating loss suggests that costs are growing faster than the business can currently absorb. A capital raise can fund expansion, but it does not resolve the underlying profitability question. Investors should distinguish between growth driven by stronger customer demand and growth that requires disproportionately higher spending. What to watch next Three metrics matter in the coming quarters: contribution margins, EBITDA loss as a percentage of revenue, and cash burn. The proposed capital raise also warrants attention for its final structure and use of proceeds. Stance: Wait for evidence of improving unit economics before turning constructive. Revenue growth is a positive signal, but a credible path towards lower losses is essential for a stronger investment case.
