DAC Clears ₹1.10 Lakh Crore Defence Acquisition Proposals

India’s Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for defence procurement proposals worth approximately ₹1.10 lakh crore, covering the Army, Navy and Air Force. Key Highlights • Indian Army: Approvals include CBRN Recce Vehicles, High Mobility Vehicles, Mechanical Mine Layers, Advanced Light Helicopters (ALHs), Trawl Tanks and Sarvatra Bridge Systems. • Indian Navy: Procurement of Arudhra Radars and development followed by procurement of Marine Gas Turbines received approval. • Indian Air Force: Proposals include systems to enhance the capabilities of fighters, transport aircraft and helicopters, along with Ground-Based Multi-Purpose Jammers. • Approximately 98% of the approved procurement value will be sourced from Indian industry. Why It Matters The ₹1.10 lakh crore approvals represent a significant pipeline of potential defence procurement, with the 98% domestic sourcing component providing a major push to defence indigenisation. The proposals span multiple areas including helicopters, military vehicles, radars, electronic warfare systems and naval propulsion, potentially creating opportunities across India's broader defence manufacturing and supply-chain ecosystem. Importantly, AoN is an in-principle approval and not the same as a final contract award. Actual orders will follow subsequent procurement processes.
