Hero MotoCorp September dispatches rise 12% to 766,348
Hero MotoCorp Limited
HEROMOTOCO
dispatched 766,348 two-wheelers in September 2026, up 12% from 687,220 a year ago. Domestic ICE retail registrations rose 29% in the same month, well ahead of dispatch growth.
What happened: Domestic ICE dispatches were 710,436 against 632,253. Motorcycles rose 6.35% to 665,994 and ICE scooters rose 60% to 100,354. VIDA dispatched 28,798 electric scooters. Exports were 27,330, up 5% from August. By my addition, Q2 dispatches were about 1.87 million, up 10.5% year on year.
Why it matters: Retail growing faster than dispatches means dealers are not being loaded with stock. Bajaj Auto's domestic two-wheeler sales fell 12% in the same month, so the weakness is not industry-wide.
My view: Scooters are doing the heavy lifting. A 60% jump is welcome, but motorcycles grew only 6% and they are the profit core for Hero. I trust the retail number more than the dispatch number. If October retail stays above 20%, the festive build-up is real. If it drops under 15%, September pulled demand forward. I would not call this a margin story until I see Q2 EBITDA margin.
What I am watching: October VAHAN retail growth, and Q2 FY27 results for EBITDA margin. The results date is not announced and the trading window has been closed since October 1.
Call: Cautiously positive on volumes. Neutral on earnings until margin is visible.
