Union Bank Q2 Results: Profit Jumps 30%, Breakout?
Union Bank of India has delivered a strong Q2 FY27 performance, and the market reaction is turning positive. But can the rally sustain?
The Results Story
The bank reported standalone net profit of ₹5,537 crore, up 30.31% year-on-year. Net interest income (NII) increased 20.09% to ₹10,583 crore, while net interest margin improved to 2.86% from 2.67%. Asset quality also strengthened, with the gross NPA ratio declining to 2.42% from 3.29%. Global advances grew 18.53% year-on-year, although deposit growth of 6.87% remains a metric to monitor.
Technical View
Union Bank closed at ₹180.70, gaining 5.25% on the day. The stock has moved above its 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200-day moving averages, signalling improving price momentum.
RSI at 58.44 supports a positive momentum outlook without entering the conventional overbought zone. ADX near 29.89 indicates a reasonably strong trend, although follow-through buying remains important.
My View
The combination of strong earnings and a bullish technical recovery makes Union Bank an interesting stock to watch. The ₹182–183 zone is an immediate hurdle, followed by ₹190–195. On the downside, ₹176–174 is an important support area. A sustained move above resistance could strengthen the bullish setup, while a fall below support may weaken it.
Will improving profitability and asset quality fuel the next leg of the rally? The coming sessions should offer more clarity.
