Reliance Industries Plans ₹12,500 Crore Bond Issue

RELIANCE
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is set to return to India's domestic rupee bond market after nearly three years, with plans to raise ₹12,500 crore through a five-year bond issue. According to reports, the proposed bonds will carry an annual coupon of 7.47%, with investor bids expected to be invited on September 15. The issue would mark Reliance's first rupee bond offering since November 2023. The proposed ₹12,500 crore fundraising would be among the largest single-tranche bond issues by a rated Indian company since Reliance's ₹20,000 crore issue in November 2023. The company is looking to tap the domestic debt market at a time when Indian banks have substantial surplus liquidity. The timing is also significant as borrowers are increasingly looking to secure long-term funding amid expectations of potential changes in interest rates. Reliance's strong credit profile and diversified business operations make the proposed issue a notable development in India's corporate bond market. Reliance operates across multiple businesses, including oil-to-chemicals, digital services, retail and new energy. The company continues to make significant investments across these businesses, making access to multiple sources of capital an important part of its broader financial strategy. The proposed bond issue could provide Reliance with additional financial flexibility while allowing it to diversify its funding sources beyond traditional bank financing. Investors will also be watching the final demand and pricing of the issue once the bidding process begins.
