JSW Steel reports 5% growth in crude steel production
JSW Steel has reported consolidated crude steel production of 7.27 million tonnes for the second quarter of FY27 (Q2FY27), registering a 4.60% year-on-year increase from 6.95 million tonnes in Q2FY26. The company's Indian operations reported a 5.37% rise in crude steel production to 7.07 million tonnes in Q2FY27 from 6.71 million tonnes in Q2FY26. However, JSW Steel USA (Ohio) produced 0.20 million tonnes of crude steel in Q2FY27, a decline of 16.67% from 0.24 million tonnes produced in Q2FY26.
Impact : Higher production volumes have not guaranteed immediate profitability. Scaling up production has driven up raw material consumption at a time when global coking coal surges of $12–$15 per tonne are actively squeezing operating EBITDA margins.
View : The physical production numbers are only the first step. The stock's near-term recovery will rely entirely on the upcoming financial results announcement, where real product pricing power and net realizations will be revealed. The Q2 FY27 production numbers present a mixed operational narrative for JSW Steel Limited. While the topline output indicates strong execution, the underlying performance details carry distinct corporate, operational, and financial implications.
