GMR Infra — From Infrastructure to India’s Next Growth Cycle

GMRP&UI
GMR Infra is no longer just an infrastructure company. It is becoming a multi-engine growth platform across airports, energy and urban infrastructure. The biggest trigger is the transformation of its airport business. GMR Airports, formerly GMR Airports Infrastructure, reported Q1 FY27 total income of ₹4,085 crore, up 23% YoY, while EBITDA increased 22% to ₹1,568 crore. PAT turned positive at ₹148 crore, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of positive PAT. And the airport portfolio is getting bigger. GMR completed the takeover of Nagpur Airport in June 2026, while Bhogapuram Airport started commercial operations in August. Bhogapuram begins with 6 million passengers of annual capacity and is scalable to 40 million passengers. Then comes the real opportunity — multiple infrastructure engines. Airports ↑ Energy ↑ Urban Infra ↑ Retail ↑ Cargo ↑ Aerocity ↑ And GMR isn't simply earning from passengers. The platform is expanding into duty-free, retail, cargo, hotels, commercial real estate and airport-city development, allowing it to monetise the entire ecosystem around its airports. Delhi Duty Free alone generated ₹580 crore revenue in Q1 FY27, while passenger spending per passenger increased to ₹1,116. The scale is already significant. GMR Airports served more than 121 million passengers in FY26, with seven operational airport assets across India and overseas. The company is also developing the Crete airport in Greece and expanding its airport-adjacent businesses. And this is where the GMR story becomes interesting: Traffic creates revenue. Revenue creates cash flow. Cash flow funds expansion. Expansion creates more traffic. That flywheel can become increasingly powerful as India's aviation and infrastructure demand continues to grow. Of course, debt, high capex, execution risk, aviation cycles and regulatory changes remain important risks. But the transformation is visible. Airports are growing. New assets are coming online.
