Auto Sector Surge: Domestic Dispatches and Medium-Term Growth Targets

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), domestic passenger vehicle dispatches jumped 34.3% year-on-year to 4,57,810 units in July 2026, up from 3,40,772 units in July 2025. Broad-based demand across the sector drove similar momentum in other vehicle categories, with two-wheeler sales growing 22.6% to 19,23,483 units and three-wheeler dispatches rising 33.4% to 92,560 units. This strong surge across segments signals robust domestic auto demand, buoyed by positive consumer sentiment and optimistic expectations heading into the upcoming festive season. Looking ahead, the passenger vehicle segment is projected to sustain its upward trajectory, anchored by a revival in small car demand and continued popularity of sport utility vehicles (SUVs). Industry leader Maruti Suzuki anticipates India’s annual passenger vehicle volume will expand by roughly one-third over the next five years, reaching 6.1–6.3 million units compared to 4.64 million units in FY26. Combined with strong immediate sales, this long-term outlook reinforces a favorable trajectory for the broader Indian automotive ecosystem, benefiting manufacturing, supply chains, dealer networks, and employment. $MARUTI
