Madhya Pradesh EV Surge: PM E-DRIVE Deployment Insights & National Outlays

During FY26, Madhya Pradesh deployed 94,277 electric vehicles (EVs) under the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, with 88,209 units receiving incentives. This incentivized fleet was heavily dominated by electric two-wheelers (81,840 units) alongside 6,369 electric three-wheelers, while no electric buses were allocated to the state under this initiative. District-wise, Indore led the state with 12,840 incentivized EVs, followed by Gwalior (9,476), Jabalpur (7,913), Bhopal (6,622), Sagar (2,685), and Chhindwara (2,683). Meanwhile, the Ministry of Heavy Industries noted that the Central Government does not track the specific quantum of demand incentives distributed directly to state-level vehicle buyers or original equipment manufacturer delivery networks. To accelerate nationwide EV adoption, the Central Government is implementing several large-scale initiatives. Notified in September 2024 with a ₹10,900 crore (US$ 1.23 billion) outlay, the PM E-DRIVE Scheme aims to subsidize ~28.30 lakh EVs across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, trucks, buses, and ambulances, while setting aside ₹4,391 crore for 14,028 e-buses, ₹2,000 crore for public charging infrastructure, and additional grants for testing facility upgrades. This complements earlier efforts like FAME India Phase-II—which subsidized 16.72 lakh EVs and sanctioned 6,862 e-buses—as well as Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes worth ₹25,938 crore for automobiles and auto components and ₹18,100 crore for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) battery storage. $TVSMOTOR
